One major milestone on a project like this is when walls finally start going up. After tons of work on the foundation and kitchen floor I finally started building walls!
In the last couple of weeks I finished the mechanical, put in insulation and got it all inspected. This weekend I did some demo of the old garage ceiling and started building new walls. In order to make way for new walls and roof over the kitchen I've got to remove the existing roof in the garage. To prepare for this I removed the ceiling drywall, insulation and some of the electrical. This will allow me to build walls on the new kitchen floor and keep the area fairly clean when I finally remove the roof. The goal is to build the kitchen walls before removing the roof so that once the roof is gone the walls can go up right away.
When the roof comes off I'll reuse a couple of trusses to beef up the gable end of the garage to build a hip roof. So, before the garage roof comes down I need to build the garage walls so I have a place to put the extra trusses. It's quite rewarding to finally see walls going up!
